Connect to an MFLEX Kyocera Printer

Choose your operating system first, then use Universal Print or the direct setup method for your device. This guide also includes toner and waste toner replacement steps for the Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci copiers.

Kyocera Printer Information

Use the printer name for Universal Print, or the IP address for direct network setup.

macOS Setup: Universal Print

Add the MFLEX Kyocera copiers as cloud printers using your MFLEX Microsoft 365 work account.

Printing protocol: Microsoft Universal Print
Use this method first when available: Universal Print does not require entering an IP address. Add the printer queue by location, then repeat the same steps for any other MFLEX Kyocera copier you need.

  1. Install Microsoft Universal Print.

    Open the Mac App Store, search for Microsoft Universal Print, then install the Universal Print app from Microsoft.

  2. Open Universal Print.

    Launch the Universal Print app from Applications or Launchpad.

  3. Sign in with your MFLEX account.

    Use your MFLEX Microsoft 365 work account. If the sign-in window asks for permission, allow the app to use your account for printer discovery.

  4. Search for the Kyocera queue.

    In Universal Print, search for the location or queue name, such as Sunnyvale, Irvine, 1FL, 2FL, or Kyocera.

  5. Add the correct copier.

    Select one of these queues: 1FL Sunnyvale Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci, 2FL Sunnyvale Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci, or Irvine Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci. Click Add.

  6. Repeat for additional copiers.

    Add each MFLEX Kyocera copier you use regularly. Users who travel between offices may add all three queues.

  7. Confirm the printer was added.

    Open Apple menu, System Settings, Printers & Scanners, and confirm the Universal Print Kyocera queue appears in the printer list.

  8. Print a test page.

    Open a test document, choose the Universal Print Kyocera queue, and print one page to confirm the setup works.

If the printer does not appear: Confirm you are signed in with your MFLEX work account, restart the Universal Print app, and contact the MFLEX Service Desk if the queue is still missing.

macOS Setup: AirPrint or Bonjour

Install the Kyocera driver, then add the printer with AirPrint or Bonjour discovery.

Step 1: Download the Printer Driver

Download the Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci printer driver for macOS from the approved MFLEX software location or the Kyocera support site.

Step 2: Install the Printer Driver

  1. Launch the installer.

    Double-click the downloaded Kyocera driver installer.

  2. Complete the installation.

    Follow the on-screen prompts until the printer driver installation finishes.

Step 3: Add the Printer

Printing protocol: AirPrint / Bonjour
  1. Open Printers & Scanners.

    Click the Apple menu, open System Settings, then select Printers & Scanners in the sidebar. You may need to scroll down.

  2. Start adding a printer.

    Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax.

  3. Select the default discovery list.

    Choose Default, then select the Kyocera printer that appears in the Name column. Confirm the Kind column shows Bonjour.

  4. Choose the correct driver.

    In the Use dropdown, select the Kyocera printer driver, then click Add.

Driver already selected? If the Kyocera driver is already shown in the Use field, continue and add the printer.

Windows Setup: Universal Print

Add the MFLEX Kyocera copiers from Windows Settings using your MFLEX Microsoft 365 work account.

Printing protocol: Microsoft Universal Print
Best for Windows 10 and Windows 11: Universal Print is added from Windows printer settings. You do not need to enter the copier IP address when the cloud queue is available.

  1. Confirm your work account is connected.

    Open Settings, Accounts, then Access work or school. Confirm your MFLEX work account is connected. If it is missing, contact the MFLEX Service Desk before continuing.

  2. Open Printers & scanners.

    Open Settings, select Bluetooth & devices, then select Printers & scanners.

  3. Start adding a printer.

    Click Add device next to Add a printer or scanner, then wait while Windows searches for available printers.

  4. Search your organization if needed.

    If the Kyocera queue does not appear automatically, select the option to search for printers in your organization, then search for Sunnyvale, Irvine, 1FL, 2FL, or Kyocera.

  5. Add the correct copier.

    Select one of these queues: 1FL Sunnyvale Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci, 2FL Sunnyvale Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci, or Irvine Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci. Click Add device.

  6. Wait for installation to finish.

    Windows installs the Universal Print queue automatically. Leave Settings open until the printer shows as installed.

  7. Repeat for additional copiers.

    Add each MFLEX Kyocera copier you need. Users who work in multiple locations may add all three queues.

  8. Print a test page.

    Select the Universal Print Kyocera queue from any application and print one test page to confirm the setup works.

If the printer does not appear: Confirm your MFLEX work account is connected to Windows, connect to the internet, restart Settings, and contact the MFLEX Service Desk if the queue is still missing.

Windows Setup: WSD

Use nearby printer discovery, then confirm the Kyocera KX driver is selected.

Download the Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci printer driver for Windows 11 64-bit, then extract the downloaded ZIP file before continuing.

Printing protocol: WSD, Web Services for Devices
  1. Open Printers & scanners.

    Open Settings, select Bluetooth & devices, then select Printers & scanners.

  2. Add the nearby printer.

    Click Add device. When the Kyocera printer appears, click Add device next to it.

  3. Wait for Windows to finish.

    Allow Windows to complete the printer installation.

Change the Driver from IPP Class Driver to Kyocera KX Driver

  1. Open Printer Properties.

    Open the installed Kyocera printer, then open Printer properties.

  2. Enable property changes.

    Click Change Properties.

  3. Open the Advanced tab.

    Select Advanced.

  4. Select the Kyocera KX driver.

    From the Driver dropdown, select Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci KX, then click OK.

Ready to print: After the Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci KX driver is selected and saved, the printer is ready to use.

If the Kyocera KX Driver Is Not Listed

  1. Add a new driver.

    Click New Driver, then click Have Disk.

  2. Browse to the driver files.

    Select the driver folder from the Windows driver ZIP file you extracted earlier.

  3. Select the Kyocera driver.

    Choose Kyocera TASKalfa 3554ci KX, then click Next.

  4. Use the installed driver.

    Select Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended), click Next, then click Finish.

Windows Setup: IP Address

Use this method when the printer does not appear automatically or when IT asks you to add it by IP address.

Printing protocol: IPP / TCP/IP address connection
  1. Open Printers & scanners.

    Open Settings, select Bluetooth & devices, then select Printers & scanners.

  2. Start manual setup.

    Click Add device, then click Add manually.

  3. Choose IP address setup.

    Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname, then click Next.

  4. Enter the printer IP address.

    Set Device type to TCP/IP Device. Enter the printer IP address in Hostname or IP address, enter the same IP address for Port name, check Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use, then click Next.

  5. Select the Kyocera driver.

    Select the Kyocera printer driver from the list, then click Next.

  6. Use the current driver if prompted.

    Select Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended), then click Next.

  7. Name the printer.

    Enter a clear printer name, such as the location name from the table above, then click Next.

  8. Do not share the printer.

    Select Do not share this printer, click Next, then click Finish.

Toner Container Replacement

Replace toner when the printer reports that a toner color is empty.

When toner is empty, the printer displays this message:

Replace the toner container. Toner [C][M][Y][K] is empty.

When toner is low, the printer displays this message:

Toner [C][M][Y][K] is low. Replace when empty.

The replacement procedure is the same for each toner color. The steps below use the yellow toner container as an example.

  1. Open the front cover.

    The cover for the empty toner container opens.

  2. Remove the empty toner container.

    Pull the empty toner container out carefully.

  3. Bag the used toner container.

    Place the used toner container into the plastic waste bag.

  4. Unpack the new toner container.

    Remove the new toner container from the box and packaging.

  5. Prepare the new toner container.

    Tap the toner container gently, then shake it several times as shown in the printer instructions.

  6. Install the new toner container.

    Insert the toner container all the way into the printer.

  7. Close the covers.

    Close the toner container cover, then close the front cover.

After replacement: If the toner container cover or front cover does not close, confirm that the new toner container is installed correctly. Return the used toner container to your dealer or service representative for recycling or proper disposal.

Waste Toner Box Replacement

Replace the waste toner box immediately when the printer reports that it is full.

When the waste toner box is full, the printer displays this message:

Replace the waste toner box.
Do not attempt to incinerate parts that contain toner

  1. Open the waste toner box cover.

    Open the cover on the printer.

  2. Remove the waste toner box.

    Carefully remove the full waste toner box.

  3. Bag the used waste toner box.

    Place the used waste toner box into the plastic waste bag.

  4. Unpack the new waste toner box.

    Remove the new waste toner box from the packaging.

  5. Install the new waste toner box.

    Insert the new waste toner box into the printer.

  6. Close the waste toner box cover.

    Confirm the cover is fully closed.
